The Khwai Community Area is located in the heart of the Botswana wilderness, north of Moremi Game Reserve and to the south of Chobe National Park. It serves as not only one of the country’s best managed Community-Based Natural Resource Management Programs but also a perfect stopover when travelling between the two national reserves.
Khwai Development Trust was founded in April 2000, and empowers the residents of Khwai Village to play an active role in the sustainable use of natural resources whilst ensuring that the benefits from the tourism activities that take place in the area are distributed to all households and residents.
Wildlife move freely from neighbouring Moremi Game Reserve into this area so it shares the same incredible diversity as its neighbour, including the Big Five.
Elephant and lion often wonder quietly through the generously spaced campsites and leopard sightings are common. The riverfront offers spectacular sunset photo opportunities as the elephants bathe and frolic.

Khwai Community Area can be visited throughout the year, but the best time for wildlife viewing is in the dry months, from July to October.
The wet months, from January to March, are less ideal because some areas become inaccessible but game is still abundant.
Nights are never below freezing and the days are seldom unbearably hot.
